Habitude Fitness

Favorite Habitudes in Prep for Spring!

Spring is tough in Chicagoland. We can literally go from sunshine and 70 degrees, to snow and 30 degrees all within a 12 hour period (or less). The nice days almost feel like a tease. It is a challenge to just enjoy the present when you know it will be changing overnight to more winter-like conditions. However, we all try our best as I love seeing people outside walking, running, and driving with their windows down on those nice days!

Here are some of my Spring Habitudes!

Walks
Currently I have been enjoying lots of walking with temps that are tolerable. Even temps in the 30’s or 40’s feel pretty good after a long cold winter!¬†Being 35 weeks pregnant I have found that walking makes me feel better than anything! It eases back pain and is more energizing than a nap. I have always been a walker as having an active dog keeps me moving. When I walk during the day, I often listen to a podcast for work or pleasure, but sometimes I prefer the silence. Just think about all the birds you can kill with one stone when you go for a walk. (Note: No birds were killed, or are ever killed on my walks.)
1. Take the dog out
2. Exercise yourself
3. Get the kids out
4. Call a friend
5. Listen to a podcast
6. Say your prayers
7. Get out in nature
8. Invite a friend and have a chat
9. Walk to the store
10. See some neighbors…

We live about a mile from the Metra Station, so Wyatt and I take our last walk in the evening to go meet my husband after his commute from the city.

Spring Cleaning
Since our move to London we learned to simplify our life. (Read more on that here!) We thought we did a good job at this before, but moving and purging our house on the way out, living simply in England, and then purging more stuff with the move back proved to redefine how we were living. We have closets and cupboards with room to spare! What?! Things we barely use aren’t shoved into places wherever they will fit, and our pantry and freezers are not stocked to the gills in case of a Zombie Apocalypse. Even when it came to prepping for baby, we received many hand-me-downs from friends, shopped resale, and registered mostly for the necessities. As I was putting things away this week and getting organized, I realized that we have everything we need, and there really isn’t a crazy amount of stuff.

When it comes to cleaning, I have used Norwex products to keep the house tidy for years. Norwex is an all natural Swiss product that keeps you from using chemicals in your home and truly cuts your cleaning time down. I still use some standard cleaning products, but for the day-to-day, week to week, You can not beat Norwex. These cloths last forever.

The best cleaner for my hardwood floors is my white vinegar and water spray bottle. White vinegar has so many great uses in cleaning the home without chemicals. I even heard it can brighten your whites when thrown in the laundry. I will be trying that next!

I would love to hear how you Spring clean and what some of your tidy house tips are!

Spending time with friends
With the birth of our baby quickly approaching I realize that my life will be changing, and my once completely selfish schedule will no longer be my own. Therefore, I have been squeezing in as much quality time with friends as possible. Walks, coffees, workouts, and dinners with those I love has been a great spring habitude! I highly encourage speeding quality time around people who make you smile, laugh, and challenge you to be a better person!

Setting Summer Goals and Plans
From healthy eating, planting a garden, taking a trip, or spending time with family, getting it done will take some thought and effort. Start creating your vision for the summer now. I do this by creating a Summer vision board on Pinterest and writing things down. Work or pleasure, start thinking about summer you now and how you can make that happen!

On the way home from a lunch our spin class I stopped and made a salad, had some Lecroix with a splash of cherry juice, and sat in the sunshine! Take a break and dream about the long summer days ahead!

Kicking the feet up
On those spring weekends that have proven to be dark, wet, cold, and windy, we have chosen to stay in and relax. We have Netflix as our source of television entertainment, and recently we just watched Bloodline. This was a fantastic Netflix series that I highly recommend if you are looking for some suspense!

Exercising!
Fortunately I am still at it! My workouts have changed quite a bit, but I am still fitting fitness in every day. From yoga to weights, walking to spin, I am focusing on training for the most physical event of my life! My tip for you is to keep it simple. Move every day, challenge yourself, and find something you love. Hopefully in the Spring some of that can take place outdoors!spinning for twoI would love to hear some of your Spring habitudes!
