Where are you from? That is a question that I used to answer and never give much thought to. I used to say things like; originally Ohio, or Chicago, Grayslake, the Midwest, Illinois…currently when I am asked where I am from I say America. The first several times I answered in this way it felt so odd. While living in the states it was assumed I was from there, as most of us reading this are! But now, I can assume nothing as I have learned that London is a melting pot all of its own. Answering this question no longer feels strange, and I am always proud to state that I am an American.

As Americans we could take some lessons from our European friends in many of our habitudes, but I will forever be a proud citizen from the land of the free and home of the brave. We are a young country with so much time and room for growth and change. We are a free world and have vast beauty and diversity passing through from state to state. Opportunity, pride, education, freedoms, and brotherhood. A glance back as our history books will make any American’s chest puff up a bit!

There is no 4th of July celebration here in the UK, but you can bet there are many Americans here who will be honoring this day!
I am enjoying my time here in England, and feel so blessed to go see more of Europe. As amazing as these places are, I am ever so proud to be an American!

Eating and celebrating go hand in hand. What are you going to be eating tomorrow? Just because the calendar says it’s a holiday shouldn’t give us a free pass to abandon our healthy habitudes. We all know by now that we can eat well and the food will still taste good! Here are some great resources that will help us stay on track.
