Visualization has been a powerful tool in my own life. When I decided to change my eating habits and focus on health I pictured a future me; a wife who was happy, confident, and vibrant. Some one who could enjoy being in the kitchen preparing healthy meals for her family, yet could have fun indulging in a slice of pizza on a special Friday night. I wanted to develop a taste for clean, whole, foods. I pictured sinking my teeth in a ripe juicy tomato right out of the garden I would someday have. (My husband now jokes with me because I LOVE vegetables. When we first met and married, I hated them! He had to convince me just to try some peas! Vision to love vegetables…accomplished!) I wanted to be a happy, healthy, and a forever fun woman. I kept this vision day in and day out, and slowly I feel like I became her. After some years of becoming more healthy and using visualization to obtain my personal trainer certificate, I visioned having an outdoor summer training camp down by the lake and in our parks. It was just a fun dream, but finally I decided to give it a try. All in all last year was a great summer and I learned so much. Most importantly, it actually happened!
Currently I am working on a new vision. It changes from day to day-but I hope that this powerful tool will lead me to something new and exciting. I believe that if you create a mental picture-you can make it happen! I love surrounding myself with positive images and quotes. This can be done on a vision board, on Pinterest, or just keeping notes on your tablet, computer, or smart phone.
Let’s say you would like to get up and walk every morning this summer. Picture your alarm going off, you sliding on your shorts that you laid out the night before, and the sun rising in the distance. Picture yourself coming in from your morning jump-start and having the best cup of coffee. Picture yourself feeling so good by starting your morning off in this fashion that you make a healthy breakfast, and pack a healthy lunch. Picture this everyday and every night. Visualize yourself completing this goal day in and day out. This is not daydreaming-this is working towards future you!
Make this a habitude you adopt and practice often!
